Milk
Milk served to one year olds must be unflavored whole milk.
- A one-month transition period is allowed for children 24 months to 25 months old. They may have whole milk or a mixture of milks as they transition to low-fat (1%) or fat-free (skim) milk.
Milk served to 2 through 5 year olds must be unflavored low-fat (1%) or fat-free (skim).
- This also applies to Lactose Reduced, Lactose Free and Organic milk.
- Children 2 through 5 years old’s on non-dairy milk substitutes must also have unflavored.
Milked served to children 6 years and older can be unflavored low-fat (1%), unflavored fat-free (skim) or flavored fat-free (skim) milk.
- This also applies to Lactose Reduced, Lactose Free and Organic milk.
- Children 6 and above that are on non-dairy substitute can have the flavored substitute.
Infants (Children Birth to 1 year of age) must be offered Breast Milk or Iron Fortified Infant Formula (IFIF).
- A one-month transition period is allowed for children 12 months to 13 months as they transition from IFIF to whole milk.
- Children can be on Breast Milk for as long as the mother wishes to provide it. It can be served in a bottle, sippy cup or regular cup and can be served in combination with IFIF or another age appropriate milk.
