Horizons will be offering trainings on the new meal pattern for all it’s Family Daycare Providers in Late August/ Early September.  You can stay informed of the changes to the meal pattern by checking our website frequently under  <Food Program <Meal Patterns.  Remember the new meal pattern goes into effect October 1, 2017.

Current Meal Pattern Requirements for the Milk Component

Children 2 years of age and older MUST be offered Skim or 1% Milk, this includes flavored, organic and lactose free milks.

Children 1 year of age can be offered any fat content milk under the current meal pattern.

Children birth to 1 year of age must be offered Iron Fortified Infant Formula or Breast Milk.

When a child has a special nutritional need and the meal pattern cannot be met as stated above an Eating and Feeding Evaluation form or a Parental Request for a Milk Substitute form is required.

The Parental Request for a Milk Substitute has limitations to the type of soy milk that can be substituted.  The soy milk alternative MUST be the nutritional equivalent to dairy milk and be approved by DPI.  .

An Eating and Feeding Evaluation form is required for children that have a special nutritional need for other types of milk alternates such as but not limited to Almond Milk, Whole or 2% milk of children 2 years and older, or dairy milk for children under 1 year of age.

If you have any questions on the milk component regulation or how to fill out the forms please don’t hesitate to call us.
